A high point in the sport utility market is the AM General Hummer. In 1997 AM General released an upgraded version of the Hummer with one versions: Base. Standard equipment in the Hummer for 1997 and 1998 includes the 6.5 liter engine by General Motors, weighing in at 8 cylinders and sixteen valves. A 4-speed Automatic Transmission puts the power of the engine to the pavement. The has proven to be a popular configuration for the Hummer.
