Our Review of the 1991 Chevrolet S10 Tahoe

The restyled S10 Tahoe is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that utilizes 8 valves. The Pontiac engine is mated to a Borg Warner five-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 1990 version.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The S10 uses power-assisted brakes, with Non-ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and leaf in the rear.

Vehicle Statistics

The dimensions of the S10 Tahoe are 73.90 inches wide by 194.20 inches long. It sits 65.20 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 109.80 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

The standard warranty period for the S10 is 60* months, or 50,000* miles, whichever comes first. There is also a warranty on the powertrain for 36* months or 50,000* miles respectively. This is standard in the standard cab pickup market.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $13,592 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of an industry-low price. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Standard Cab Pickup.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 1991 S10 is a TBI system, running on gasoline . The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected TBI design. The 20.00-gallon tank provides the fuel storage for longer trips.

The 1991 S10 gets 23 miles/gallon on the highway and only 18 in the city. This is subpar for a standard cab pickup truck.

We Think...

The 1991 model year was telling year for the Chevrolet S10. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the Tahoe version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.
