Not Your Father’s S10 – The 1993 Chevrolet S10 EL

The 1993 S10 is an important vehicle to Chevrolet for the standard cab pickup market segment. The EL is a member of a series of two trim levels for the S10 which include EL and Base. The two-door truck with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Chevrolet. There is strong competition from vehicles from Nissan.

Chevrolet S10 Engine Specs

The S10 EL is equipped with a General Motors 2.8 liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 12 valves. The Chevrolet engine is mated to a General Motors 4-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Chevrolet.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The S10 has power-assisted brakes, with 2-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. The truck uses coil front springs and leaf in the rear.

S10 EL Statistics

The dimensions of the S10 EL are 77.00 inches wide by 186.80 inches long. It sits a comfortable 76.20 inches off the ground. It seats a standard five passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 111.00 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $15,995 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of an industry-high price. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Standard Cab Pickup.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 1993 S10 is a traditional TBI, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected TBI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 27.00 gallons.

The S10 EL received a miles-per-gallon rating of sixteen in-city driving and twenty one when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green truck, this was subpar.

Conclusion

The 1992 model began the promise of the Chevrolet S10. The 1993 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Chevrolet hopes that the S10 EL will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
