Chevrolet K3500

The K3500 Silverado is equipped with a General Motors 5.7 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Vortec engine is mated to a General Motors 4-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Chevrolet.

The K3500 uses power-assisted brakes, with 2-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The truck uses torsion bar and leaf springs front and rear respectively.

K3500 Silverado Statistics

The dimensions of the K3500 Silverado are 77.50 inches wide by 189.80 inches long. It sits a comfortable 76.00 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 111.20 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

The standard warranty period for the K3500 is 60* months, or 50,000* miles, whichever comes first. The warranty also includes a warranty on the drivetrain for 36* months or 50,000* miles respectively. This is standard in the cab & chassis market. Extended warranties are also available through the dealer.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $21,740 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $19,675. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Cab & Chassis.

Fuel Efficiency

The 1998 K3500's normal fuel system runs on gas. The fuel is regulated electronically, with a fuel-injected multi-port fuel injection (MFI) style of design. The fuel tank holds 25.00 gallons.

The K3500 Silverado received a miles-per-gallon rating of sixteen in-city driving and twenty when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green truck, this was subpar.

In Summary

There are several reasons why the Chevrolet K3500 Silverado sold well in 1998. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a Chevrolet, specifically a K3500.

  2. There’s no doubt that Chevrolet is up to it’s old tricks with the K3500? I’m hoping next year’s example is improved.
