Getting 22 Miles a Gallon: The Chevrolet K2500 for 1996

A lot has been said about the Chevrolet K2500 for 1996. As Chevrolet's entry in the standard cab pickup market the K2500 (and in this case specically the WT version) has maintained a solid reputation. The 2-door K2500 is especially appealing to wide market segment, making it a perfect truck to help Chevrolet as a brand in general.

Engine Performance

The K2500 WT is equipped with a General Motors 5.7 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Vortec engine is mated to a General Motors 4-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Chevrolet.

The K2500 uses power-assisted brakes, with 2-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The truck uses torsion bar and leaf springs front and rear respectively.

K2500 WT Statistics

The dimensions of the K2500 WT are 77.50 inches wide by 189.80 inches long. It sits a comfortable 75.90 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 111.00 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $18,592 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of an industry-high price. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Standard Cab Pickup.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 1996 K2500 is a traditional Central SFI, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 27.00 gallons.

The K2500 WT received a miles-per-gallon rating of seventeen in-city driving and twenty two when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green truck, this was subpar.

In Summary

The 1995 model began the promise of the Chevrolet K2500. The 1996 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Chevrolet hopes that the K2500 WT will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
