First Impressions of the Chevrolet K2500 for 1996

There's been a lot of talk about the Chevrolet K2500 for 1996. As a leading truck in the standard cab pickup market the K2500 (and in this case specically the WT version) has maintained a good reputation. The 2-door K2500 is especially appealing to broad audience, making it a perfect truck to help Chevrolet as a brand in general.

Under the Hood

Chevrolet K2500 Engine Specs: The K2500 WT comes outfitted with a Vortec 5.7 liter, 8-cylinder motor that uses 16 valves. The engine, manufactured by General Motors, is mated to a four-speed transmission by General Motors. This arrangement has demonstrated to be an effective style for Chevrolet.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The K2500 comes equipped with power-assisted brakes, with 2-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. The truck uses torsion bar front springs and leaf in the rear.

Vehicle Statistics

The dimensions of the K2500 WT are 77.50 inches wide by 189.80 inches long. It sits 75.90 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 111.00 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $18,592 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of an industry-low price. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Standard Cab Pickup.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 1996 K2500 is a Central SFI system, running on gasoline . The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The 27.00-gallon tank provides the fuel storage for longer trips.

The K2500 WT received a miles-per-gallon rating of seventeen in-city driving and twenty two when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid truck, this was exceptional.

We Think...

The 1995 model began the promise of the Chevrolet K2500. The 1996 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Chevrolet hopes that the K2500 WT will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
