Truck of the Year for 2006: The Cadillac SRX

A high point in the sport utility market is the Cadillac SRX. In 2006 Cadillac rolled out an upgraded version of the SRX with one versions: Base. Sales for the SRX, especially the SRX Base, were brisk during 2006 and 2007. The improved reliability and the sporty styling were responsible for the increased interest.

2006 Cadillac SRX Base Specs

Cadillac SRX Engine Specs: The SRX Base comes outfitted with a 3.6 liter, 6-cylinder motor that uses 24 valves. The engine, manufactured by General Motors, is mated to a five-speed transmission by General Motors. This arrangement has demonstrated to be an effective style for Cadillac.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The SRX uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The fuel system for the 2006 SRX is a traditional SFI, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 20.00 gallons.

Statistics

The dimensions of the SRX Base are 72.60 inches wide by 194.90 inches long. It sits 67.80 inches off the ground. It seats a standard five passengers, with 4 doors. The wheelbase of 116.40 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

The standard warranty period for the SRX is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. There is also a warranty on the powertrain for 48 months or 50,000 miles respectively. This is standard in the sport utility market.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $36,270 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $33,912. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Sport Utility.

MPG Ratings

The SRX Base received a miles-per-gallon rating of fifteen in-city driving and twenty two when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid truck, this was within normal parameters.

In 2005 and 2006 the SRX Base was availble in the exterior colors of Black Raven, Blackberry, Blue Chip, Infrared, Light Platinum, Radiant Bronze, Sand Storm, Silver Smoke, Stealth Gray, and White Diamond.

What We Think of the Cadillac SRX

The 2005 model began the promise of the Cadillac SRX. The 2006 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Cadillac hopes that the SRX Base will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
